LWML Missouri District’s 2016 Convention


Lutheran Women Missionary League (LWML) Missouri District President, Christie Steffens, presided over her first convention in Cape Girardeau, Mo., June 3-5, 2016. The theme, “God’s Love Spans the Centuries”, gave over 580 attendees, including 18 YWRs, a focus during worship, Bible study, and activities. Rev. Ken Young, grandson of LWML’s first President, Clara Schmitt, attended with his wife and daughter. When asked what his grandmother might think about LWML today, he said she would be very excited. I don’t know about other cities, but if you live up north where snow and ice have wreaked havoc with the roads, the summer is one construction zone after another for resurfacing roads. You just can’t get away from the cones and trucks and one lane roads. Young Men of the Missouri District Attend Christ Academy High School

Three young men from the Missouri District recently attended Christ Academy High School (CAHS) at Concordia Theological Seminary (CTSFW), Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Helping Students Fund Their Seminary Education

Laura Hemmer said if there’s one thing a prospective Concordia Seminary student should not do, it’s look at the price tag of tuition before talking to her.

“If you just look at the website and you just look at the portion that tells you about how much it costs to come to Seminary without even talking to someone, it’s daunting,” said Hemmer, Concordia Seminary’s director of financial aid.” Read more . . .

The Missouri District will be offering five conferences this fall to support our congregations and lay leaders. The purpose of the conference will be to encourage, equip and connect volunteers in our congregations through practical presentations, partnerships and networking.

Grace Place Wellness Church Worker Retreat
October 17-21, Big Cedar Lodge, Ridgedale MO

The Missouri District is partnering with Grace Place Wellness to host a retreat for active church workers. It will be held at Big Cedar Lodge on Oct. 17 – 21, 2016. The 5-day, 4-night retreat will be held at Big Cedar Lodge, a grand wilderness resort, reminiscent of lavish, turn-of-the-century Adirondack hunting lodges, but with all the modern conveniences. The only cost for the participants is a $250 registration fee and transportation to and from the retreat facility. Meals and lodging included. There are seven spots open so first come, first serve.
