Coaches Trained for 2017 District Outreach Initiative


The Plus One Initiative is the Missouri District’s outreach effort to encourage every congregation to reach out to their community in one new way. Two dozen pastors, Directors of Christian education and lay leaders from across Missouri went through two and a half days of training to assist congregations in the planning, implementing and evaluating of their outreach initiatives. Read more. . .

As I was driving, I was ruminating on the events that had taken place in my life the prior 6 weeks to my trek through this countryside. My mind kept re-visiting our trip to India from which we had recently returned. The people were wonderful, and the students we taught were so very engaging. But when we ventured from the security of our Urban Indian Ministry building, the luring security disappeared. It was noisy and messy and over populated. There were cows and garbage everywhere – piles and piles of garbage! Smelly, stinky, unsanitary garbage in all the places you looked or walked. There were a plethora of temples and people begging or selling things for their particular gods. This place and time in my life was a far cry from the unbelievable tranquility of the Wisconsin landscape. Read more . . .

 

District Adding a New Advancement Position
The Missouri District has begun a search process for an Assistant to the President for Mission Advancement. 
  • This staff person will work with donors to raise support for Missouri District mission initiatives.
  • The person should be a member of a Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod congregation.
  • Experience in development work is preferable, but not required.
  • There will be regular travel within the state of Missouri to meet with donors and congregational leaders.
  • This position is accountable to the President of the Missouri District.

A Missouri District E2 Conferences will be held Saturday, November 14 from 8 am – noon at Faith Lutheran Church located at 1517 E Valley Water Mill Rd, Springfield, MO 65803. The cost is $10 per registrant.

The purpose of the conference will be to encourage, equip and connect volunteers in our congregations through practical presentations, partnerships and networking.

If you don't get the chance to pre-register online, you still will be able to attend. You may walk-in the day of the conference and register/pay at the door.

Grace Place Wellness Church Worker Retreat
October 17-21, Big Cedar Lodge, Ridgedale MO

The Missouri District is partnering with Grace Place Wellness to host a retreat for active church workers. It will be held at Big Cedar Lodge on Oct. 17 – 21, 2016. The 5-day, 4-night retreat will be held at Big Cedar Lodge, a grand wilderness resort, reminiscent of lavish, turn-of-the-century Adirondack hunting lodges, but with all the modern conveniences. The only cost for the participants is a $250 registration fee and transportation to and from the retreat facility. Meals and lodging included. There are seven spots open so first come, first serve. 2016 Missouri District Pastors’ Conference
District Pastors will meet at Tan-Tar-A in Osage Beach on October 31 - November 1 for the Missouri District Pastors’ conference “God’s Gift of Marriage in Troubled Times.” CLICK HERE for more information and to register.


Missouri District Junior High Fall Retreat Rescued

The Missouri District Lutheran Jr High Retreat is returning this fall around the theme, “Rescued”. Our focus this year is on baptism and the blessings we receive from this awesome gift of God.

Our presenter & worship leader is Rev. Joel Beyer, the pastor at Community Lutheran Church near San Diego, CA. And……The Relentless Project is returning to provide our music!

Missouri District Mission Summit – Save the Date – June 3, 2017

The Missouri District will be hosting a Mission Summit next year at Concordia Seminary in partnership with LCMS Office of National Mission, Concordia Seminary, Lutheran Hour Ministries, Lutheran Church Extension Fund and Send Me St. Louis. The summit will feature Lutheran Hour Speaker, Rev. Greg Seltz presenting the keynote address. There will also be practical sessions and inspirational presentations to equip congregational leaders for reaching out to their community. Mark your calendars and plan to be there!

Mid-Missouri Lutheran Hospital Ministries

ATTENTION PASTORS! Do you have a member coming to Columbia for medical treatment at one of the Columbia hospitals? You want a pastor to visit your member? Mid-Missouri Lutheran Hospital Ministries provides hospital pastoral care with Rev. Richard Ingmire. You may contact him at 573-231-1424 (cell) or by email ingmire67@hotmail.com to alert him of your member’s hospitalization. He will be pleased to assist you with pastoral care for your member. Or your member may also contact him just prior to the hospital admission, or register as Lutheran when admitted to the hospital.



LERT Training Workshop
Chapel of the Cross - Lutheran (11645 Benham Rd., just north of Christian Northeast Hospital) is hosting a Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) training workshop on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This LERT training will help you to be better prepared when a disaster strikes and to help you know how to respond within our church and within the greater community. Registration fee is $35 which includes a training manual, LCMS volunteer vest and lunch. You will receive your certificate of participation and volunteer certification badge from LCMS Disaster Response and the LCMS Office of National Mission. Call Chapel of the Cross at 314-741-3737 to sign up and reserve your place at the workshop.

 

St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Des Peres (Community Health Fair)
The public is invited to a Community Health Fair on Saturday, October 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
St. Paul's is located at the corner of Manchester and Ballas Roads, across from West County Mall.

This event will feature a wide variety of screenings, information on personal wellness, flu shots, and children's activities. The Des Peres Police and Fire Departments will participate. Pastors will be available for conversation and private prayer with any who desire. Check their website for additional information.
